Warranties ( or rather mechanical breakdown insurance )

Something like house insurance .......reassuring to have but hopefully you will never need to make a claim !

Most garages will offer some sort of warranty, some as a lot of people have found out to their cost are just not really worth the paper they are written on ....so therefore what you need to check is ....

1) What is covered ...... this should be listed in the warranty book itself and you should have a good look at it, some just cover very very limited parts !

2) What is the maximum payout per claim? This can be as low as £100 per claim so you need to check....

3) How long is the cover for ? IE how many months? This can be as short as 1 month so you need to check ...

4) What is the total maximum payout per warranty term (ie the most you will ever get back)

The warranty company I use and recommend is Warranty Management Services ..... Warranty House,Wycombe Road,Studley Green,Buckinghamshire

www.wmswarranty.com

The cover I usually include for my cars for sale is their 4 star warranty which is for a 3month term, maximum total payout is the purchase price of the car, maximum payout per claim varies on age/type of car but minimum is £500 per claim (unlimited number of claims...maximum being £1000 per claim/unlimited number of claims).

Cover is extendable up to 3 years in total and having done a special deal with WMS I can offer longer cover at excellent trade prices....

12 months cover is £150
24 months cover is £250
36 months cover is £325

The warranty can be transferred to a new owner if the car is sold before the warranty expires.

NB these are trade prices not "retail" prices some garages/dealers would try to charge you to make money.

NB total max payout is the purchase price of the car ..... ie you can never get back more in any amount of claims than you ever paid for the car in the first place CHECK out other peoples warranties for this clause as some total max payout for all claims is very low !
